Fate's Mercy walkthrough: the Little Bridge ambush, freeing Ambrus's prisoners, the 'not for the reward' choice, and meeting the blacksmith's apprentice among the rescued.
Fate's Mercy — listed as Ambrus's Prisoners: Fate's Mercy — is the rescue that runs off the Little Bridge shrine: Ambrus's prisoner transport has stopped in the trees, and the people in the cage have one very unusual rescuer coming through the fog. It's short, it pays a skill point, and one of the rescued is worth knowing for the rest of the run.

How to start
Set out from the Little Bridge shrine, cross the bridge, and follow the road into the woods until you hit the transport: Ambrus's handlers and their chained cargo. The fight is straightforward — night makes it trivial — but mind the prisoners' position in the melee; stray swings cost you the people you came for.
The choice after the fight
With the handlers down and the cage open, the freed prisoners ask what you want for it. The answer that defines the scene: "I didn't save you for a reward." It costs you a purse and earns the scene everything — this is one of the quests quietly measuring what kind of vampire Coen is becoming.
Danilo
Among the rescued is a blacksmith's apprentice — a young man named Danilo, alive because Ambrus's men found him useful. He's worth a proper conversation before you all go your separate ways: forge-adjacent allies are rare in a valley where every anvil has a queue.
The quest completes on the walk out — 250 XP and 1 skill point, plus the small, lasting satisfaction of having cost Ambrus a delivery. It will not be the last.
The arc so far
Fate's Mercy slots into the Ambrus chain alongside Roadside Surprise, Bounty of the Mire, Evil and Convenience and the rest — each one a cut at the same network. Enough cuts and the network's owner takes an interest, which is how the arc's bigger rewards (and its duel) eventually find you.
