Live Bait walkthrough for The Blood of Dawnwalker: the tag game choice, the four fishing rods, worm baiting, and the Brencis officer conversation by the river.
Live Bait is the prologue's fishing afternoon: Coen's younger siblings want to catch dinner, the wolves have them spooked, and a half-vampire brother is the perfect escort. It is a short, warm quest with one time-unit decision and a riverside conversation that quietly introduces the valley's politics.

How to start
The quest branches off the ending of Like Father, Like Son: close that quest with "See you then," and free time opens up. You'll find your younger siblings waiting on the path below the house — Pieter sent them to fish, but wolves on the prowl have them too nervous to go alone. Agree to come along; the trip costs 1–2 time units.
The walk to the river
- The tag game. On the path, the kids stall. You can spend another time unit playing tag — "let's play tag, that will get them running" — or tell them to quit complaining and push on. Neither choice changes the outcome; tag costs time, pushing on saves it.
- More stalling at the river. One more choice beat, both branches landing in the same place. Pick whichever fits your Coen.
Baiting up
At the riverbank, use Focus mode to spot the fishing rods in the brush behind Yanna — there are four to collect. Set them up along the bank, bait each hook with a worm, and the scene rolls into the quest's real substance: conversation, first with the kids, then with strangers.
The riverside conversations
- With the kids, the warm route runs: "Anca is just a good friend of mine", then "Because he's sad", then, baiting the hook — "That will hurt, won't it?", and "You don't like seeing animals suffer? Is that it?"
- One of Brencis's officers interrupts. Answer him — "As far as I know, he's still at home" — and "This has nothing to do with her."
- When the Urisash man steps in and sends the officer off, close the scene warmly: "People are just complaining", "I'll pass it along honestly", and "Thank you. I mean it."
- After the Urisash leaves, the quiet closer: "Maybe not all monsters are bad."
Your picks here don't swing the story much, but the Urisash is doing you a favor — being decent to him costs nothing.
Wrap-up and a free shrine
The quest pays out 100 XP. On the way back — or as a detour while you're out — follow the map's shrine marker across the river and climb the rocks to unlock the shrine above the marsh. shrines are always worth the detour; this one opens a fast-travel node on the river's far bank.
