The Cursed Chasm walkthrough: repairing the broken shrine, descending into the chasm, the astral resonance challenge, the Cycle of Destruction manual, and the Echo boss fight.
The Cursed Chasm is the Briar Sloughs' dungeon quest: a broken shrine that starts the Echoes of Silenced Bells thread, a gorge the locals avoid, a mural that shouldn't exist, and a boss that is quite literally an echo of something older. The loot is excellent — two manuals' worth of progression and one of the game's famous swords.

How to start: the broken shrine
Begin at the broken shrine on the western slope path. Interacting with it starts the shrine-repair thread (Echoes of Silenced Bells in the quest log). Use Focus mode to follow the footprints from the shrine to a camp in the trees; clear the camp, then search it for the shrine heart in a chest. Carry it back and repair the shrine — the mended shrine becomes a fast-travel node and the quest's true starting gun.
Down into the chasm
From the mended shrine, continue to the Coward's Path shrine nearby and unlock it too. Follow the road to its end, where the chasm quest formally begins. Then double back a short stretch: on the right you'll find the jump-down into the gorge. Drop in and follow the chasm to its end, where the mural waits on the rock.
The astral resonance challenge
Interacting with the mural opens the astral resonance challenge — a timed cancellation mini-game where you match the glowing sigils before the resonance fades. It's the same skill the game has been teaching you at every shrine; read the pattern, don't mash.
Success opens the chest beside the rock: the Cycle of Destruction manual and the Guildmaster's Blade.
The boss: Echo
The chasm doesn't let you leave with the loot. On the climb back out, the wall itself answers — Echo, a boss fight against a reflected, hollow version of a warrior. Practical notes:
- Echo mimics aggression with aggression — the fight punishes greed harder than most early bosses.
- Keep Shadowstep for the beats where it mirrors your recovery frames; punishing the mirror-copy's long recovery is the safest damage window.
- If you're running low, remember the chasm's rats: Voracious Bite outside combat turns the fauna into a potion.
Beat it and the chest behind it yields Durandal — yes, that Durandal — a sword well above its pay grade this early. With the boss down and both shrines repaired, the Briar Sloughs' cursed corner is closed out: 250 XP, two manuals' worth of reading, and a legendary blade on Day 2 or 3.
