Roadside Surprise walkthrough: clearing Ambrus's camp by the Stoneward Post, the cargo letter and urgent mail, the barrel destruction, and helping Brave Klaus on his way.
Roadside Surprise — full title Ambrus's Transports: Roadside Surprise — is the first thread of the Ambrus arc that runs across the whole valley: one man's logistics network of prisoners, leeches and loot, strung between the swamp and the mountains. This segment starts right outside the Stoneward Post and takes about ten minutes.

How to start
From the Stoneward Post shrine, walk to the camp on the right side of the road. The camp is hostile — clear the fighters first, then loot.
What to pick up
- Search the bodies. One carries a letter about the cargo — read it; it names the operation you've just interrupted and points at the rest of Ambrus's network.
- The urgent mail sits on a barrel. Collecting it starts a connected errand toward Ambrus's leech collectors — the arc's next threads (Wetland Helpers, Bounty of the Mire and friends).
- Sweep the camp's containers before moving on; this arc pays in potions and denarii.
Burn the barrels
In the middle of the camp stands a stack of wooden barrels — Ambrus's goods. Destroy them. It's one animation, it denies the convoy its cargo, and it's the quest's actual objective dressed as property damage.
Brave Klaus
As the camp burns, you'll meet Brave Klaus — a would-be recruit having a very bad day of it. The kind ending is the correct one: "Come on, don't give up. One day you'll earn its favor." Encourage him and the quest closes — Ambrus's Transports: Roadside Surprise complete, 250 XP on the tally.
Why this arc matters
Every Ambrus quest you complete chips at the same network — transports, collectors, dungeons, cellars — and enough interference eventually makes the man himself look up from his ledger. That confrontation is the arc's payoff: beat him and his gear is yours, along with a note that starts one of the valley's stranger quests. This first camp is where that road starts.
