Shadows in the Woods walkthrough: the bridge fight by the Stoneward Post, the shrine repair, Sara's meeting point, the bribe choice, and finding Crake's hideout.
Shadows in the Woods is Mert's outside plan in motion: with the miller locked in the Stoneward Post, his ally Sara is waiting in the woods, and Mert wants Coen to make the introduction. Expect a bridge fight, a shrine worth fixing, one honest bribe, and an introduction to the most foul-mouthed ally in the valley.

How to start
The thread begins at the bridge near the Stoneward Post: a group of hostiles holds the crossing. Clear them, and while you're there — repair the broken shrine beside the bridge. It's free fast travel in a corner of the map you'll keep visiting for the whole Ambrus arc.
The meeting point
Follow the marker into the trees to the meeting spot. A soldier questions what business you have here; the conversation runs:
- "That girl is my sister."
- When the toll comes up, pay it: "No idea. But maybe these coins can answer that?" — it costs 100 gold, and it's the smooth way through.
Sara
Talk to Sara and open with the password that matters: "Mert sent me." That line is the quest — she relaxes, and the woods open up.
Crake's hideout
Sara leads you to the hideout, where Crake runs things. The conversation is a two-step dance:
- Answer his framing question with "A friend."
- Cycle through the white (repeatable) options until new lines appear, then pick "That about covers it. That's what I did before."
- One more round of white options, then the closer: "Has anyone ever told you what hard work you are?"
That final jab lands the quest — Crake respects people who push back, and the hideout becomes a safe point in the woods for the rest of the arc. Shadows in the Woods pays 1,000 XP, one of the fattest single-quest rewards in the early game.
With Mert's inside man and outside allies both in place, the jailbreak is now on the table: Under Watchful Eyes takes you back into the Stoneward Post for the breakout itself.
